Target's Problems With Designer Line Continue

PITTSBURGH,None - Retail giant Target is still dealing with repercussions from last week’s launch of a designer line that was so successful it crashed the company's website. Now some customers are complaining because their orders have been delayed or canceled.

The collection by Italian designer Missoni sold out in two days.

Target was offering the line, which usually sells for $500 to $1,000, for a fraction of that price and never anticipated demand would be so high.

On Sept. 13, Target's website crashed and was down for most of the day. Shoppers saw page saying "woof."

Later, some customers received an email saying their orders had been canceled or were delayed. By that time, the Missoni line had sold out in stores. The limited-edition collection was supposed to be on sale in stores through October.

A Target representative says they had "unprecedented demand” that “affected the shipment and delivery of select guest orders."

In a statement the company went on to say, "Providing an exceptional guest experience is incredibly important to Target, and we have a team dedicated to addressing those guests who have been affected."

The Missoni collection was an attempt to regain the attention of fashion-conscious customers who may have strayed after Target began focusing on food sales.

While the buzz turned to frustration for some customers, analysts predict the blunder will not have long-term effects.
