Teacher accused of having sex with student, giving her booze

WEST ALLEGHENY, Pa. — A West Allegheny High School teacher has been suspended after police informed the school district that the 28-year-old man is accused of institutional sexual assault of a minor and providing that minor with alcohol.

According to the criminal complaint, the West Allegheny School District received an anonymous letter that advised them to investigate William Morosetti, a popular teacher and wrestling coach.

The complaint said a girl claimed when she was a student she had a sex with Morosetti at his house and they drank alcohol together. The girl said she was 18 at the time of the incident.

The girl said the situation started when during her senior year she went for ice cream with Morosetti, and then they went to his house, the complaint said.

The girl told detectives that they both “missed school due to being so drunk the previous night.”

During her interview with police, the girl said she drank alcohol and had sex with Morosetti at his Coraopolis townhouse about six times.

Morosetti is facing six felony counts of institutional sexual assault and one misdemeanor count of selling or furnishing alcohol to minors.

Morosetti has been suspended while police investigate the charges, according to the school district.

The West Allegheny School District released the following statement Thursday about the situation: “The West Allegheny School District was informed by the Allegheny County Police Department late Wednesday evening, January 16, 2013, that a high school teacher had been charged with Institutional Sexual Assault of a Minor and Selling or Furnishing Liquor or Malt or Brewed Beverage.

“According to police, the incident that led to the arrest did not involve a current student. The teacher has been suspended pending the outcome of the judicial process. Given this issue is a personnel matter, the school district is unable to comment further.

“The district will continue to cooperate with law enforcement.”
