Teen accused of setting 5 fires in North Side arrested

PITTSBURGH — Police arrested a 16-year-old boy accused of intentionally setting five fires late Sunday night in the North Side.

Investigators said the boy is accused of setting the fires between 10:45 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. Sunday.

Fires were reported at a house on Termon Avenue, a pile of trash in the back of a home on Atkins Street, a pickup bed liner on Shadeland Avenue, a large pine tree on Stokes Way and a planter of flowers on Shadeland Avenue, investigators said.

Authorities said no injuries were reported in the fires, which caused about $10,000 in damage.

According to police, the teen is charged as a juvenile with seven counts of arson, four counts of risking catastrophe and five counts of criminal mischief.

The boy, whose name has not been released, was taken to the Shuman Juvenile Detention Center on Monday, police said.
