Tree saves 9-year-old's life in accident in Washington Township

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A girl said a tree saved her life this week in Morris Township.

Police said a driver lost control and flew off State Route 18 and toward a home.

"I was in my room asleep.  I heard this big boom, and it woke me up," said 9-year-old Gabriella Wynniello.

The driver hit a tree and struck the corner of the home, police said.

"The guy crashed, and this tree saved my life.  If it wasn't there, I probably would be dead right now," said Wynniello.

The driver was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital with head injuries.

Police believe he was speeding.
