Van crashes into jewelry store in Wexford

WEXFORD, Pa. — A van crashed into a jewelry store in Wexford on Saturday.

The van’s owner, Sandi Weber, uses a motorized wheelchair to get around and has to use a ramp to get into the van and behind the wheel. The van itself has no driver’s seat to accommodate the wheelchair.

Weber said another vehicle was parked next to the van, so she was unable to get in.

Weber then said her 80-year-old mother placed the van in neutral and let it drift, so Weber would have enough room to get in.

"My mom said I'll just drift it forward so you can get in. I said, ‘Okay.’ So I reached in and put the break on with the hand control; she put it in drive ... I couldn't stop it," said Weber.

The van ended up running into the front window of the Casa D’Oro at the Four Point Sheraton. In addition to shattering the store’s font window, some of the jewelry cases were also destroyed.

Weber’s mother was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment after the accident.
