Vigil held for 12-year-old killed by rolling SUV driven by father

PITTSBURGH — On Tuesday, a vigil was held for a 12-year-old killed when police said her father's SUV rolled down a hill, pinning her against a tree.

Holding candles, family and friends of Shamera Harris tried to fill their emptiness with memories of her.

"She was nice, loving and caring," said Harris' best friend Sasha Green.

Green recalled the last time she spoke with Harris.

"I just talked to her that Sunday before she went to the movies. I was supposed to have been with her," Green said.

Harris was a Pittsburgh Public Schools student.  Many of her classmates were at the vigil.

Harris' mom, Carla Harris, didn't speak at the vigil, but she smiled as pink and white balloons were released.

Richard Benton, 53, has been charged with drunken driving in connection to Sunday's incident in Stanton Heights.
