W. Va. man set for trial in ex's 1999 Bethel Park stabbing

PITTSBURGH — A West Virginia man accused of fatally stabbing his ex-wife in 1999 in her suburban Pittsburgh home is finally set to stand trial.

Forty-five-year-old John Minch, of Cameron, W. Va. was arrested in April 2009 -- but only after police say a hair found at the crime could match his DNA. The hair had been in storage for years before it was tested.

Police said they didn't have enough evidence before that to charge Minch in the death of 29-year-old Melissa Groot, in Bethel Park. Her body had been discovered on May 6, 1999 by her second husband, David Groot.

Minch contends he has been framed in Groot's death.

His trial was scheduled to begin Monday before an Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge in Pittsburgh.
