PITTSBURGH - West Penn Power Co. officials hope to restore electric service to most of their customers in a four-county region by Sunday, a spokeswoman said.
“Some customers may go into (Sunday), but the vast majority, we're trying to get them service (on Saturday),” spokeswoman Diane Holden said.
As of 11:30 a.m. Saturday, 3,300 customers in Westmoreland, Washington, Fayette and Greene counties were without electric service, she said.
As many as 50,000 residences in southwestern Pennsylvania lost power Friday after a storm with high winds pushed through the area and downed power lines and trees.
About 1,100 residences were without service in Westmoreland County and another 1,600 homes in Fayette County lacked power as of late Saturday morning, the spokeswoman said.
