Woman accused of fatally shooting boyfriend while packing to move out

TITUSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — A northwestern Pennsylvania woman has been jailed on charges she fatally shot her live-in boyfriend after he handed her a gun and dared her to shoot him while she was packing up to move out.

Tina Louise Shaffer, of Plum Township, faces a preliminary hearing March 12 on a charge of criminal homicide in the death of 49-year-old Lloyd "Buddy" Shontz Jr.

State police in Franklin said Shaffer's adult son called 911 to report the shooting about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Shaffer, 39, told police Shontz handed her the gun and said, "Shoot me if that's what you want." Shaffer said she didn't remember pulling the trigger, but told police she "must have" because the gun went off.

Shaffer's public defender, Jeffrey Misko, told The Associated Press he's still investigating and can't comment.
