Woman accused of stealing more than $300K from elderly victim

SMITH TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Washington County woman accused of stealing more than $300,000 from an elderly woman was arrested Tuesday, police said.

Authorities said 42-year-old Goldie Fields, of Smith Township, told the alleged victim that she was in need of help for herself and her family, and she would lose her job as a nurse unless she went back to school.

Investigators said Fields told the 82-year-old woman that unless she paid for her schooling, she’d never be able to pay her back.

The alleged victim, who gave Fields checks and cash totaling $310,000 between May 2010 and late 2013, contacted police in November and told them she was “in over her head,” but was “too ashamed and embarrassed and afraid” to tell her family.

Fields is charged with two counts of felony theft. She is being held at the Washington County Jail on $50,000 bond. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 25.
