Woman involved in deadly Lawrence Co. police chase appears in court

PITTSBURGH — The woman accused of crashing into a police cruiser, killing Shenango Township Officer Jerry McCarthy, appeared in court Thursday.

Kylee Barletto waived her right to extradition Thursday in Youngstown, Ohio.

Barletto, 26, attended the 10-minute hearing along with her attorney, Jim Ecker.

She is accused of refusing to pull over during a police chase in New Castle last week that ended in the deadly accident. Officer Mike Lynch was injured in the crash.

Ecker said Barletto was on her way home from work when the chase began, and she is devastated by what happened.

Barletto, recovering from injuries sustained in the crash, was at a trauma hospital in Ohio before being released to the Mahoning County Jail pending today’s extradition hearing.

She is facing charges of manslaughter of a law enforcement officer and homicide by vehicle.

McCarthy was laid to rest Wednesday.
