Woman killed in Big Beaver house fire; 2 men able to escape

BIG BEAVER, Pa. — Authorities are investigating the cause of a fatal house fire in Beaver County early Thursday morning.

Firefighters were called to the home on Shenango Road in Big Beaver about 3 a.m. Thursday.

Big Beaver Fire Chief Adam Crepp said crews found the woman, whose name has not been released, in the living room of the home.

“When we pulled up to the scene, we saw heavy fire from the front of the house,” Crepp said. “It was reported as a possible entrapment, so we assumed there was entrapment.”

Authorities told Channel 11’s Lori Houy that two men were also inside the home at the time of the blaze, but they were able to escape.

The chief said one of the men was taken to an area hospital with burns he suffered while trying to save the woman. Officials said his condition is not serious.

“There were two male occupants in the house. One was taken to the ER for burns. The other got out unhurt,” Crepp said.

Crepp said there were oxygen tanks inside the house, but hasn’t said if they contributed. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
