Woman possibly struck by big rig in Hazelwood; Licensed EMT helps

HAZELWOOD, Pa. — A woman was possibly struck by a big rig truck Thursday morning in Hazelwood.

Witnesses said the incident happened on Second Avenue around 9:30 a.m.

"I just saw a lady laying on the ground and people around her. I'm a licensed EMT, so I just went into action," Darenella Murray said.

Murray was driving along Hazelwood Avenue when she said she found the woman in the street.  Murray said the woman was bleeding, shivering and couldn't talk.

Pittsburgh police spent Thursday looking into witness accounts that the woman was struck by a tractor trailer but so far have found no evidence of a hit-and-run, police said.

The victim, whose name hasn't been released, is expected to be OK, officials said.
