Wrong-way driver leads to hit-and-run crash on Route 28

PITTSBURGH — A driver traveling the wrong way on Route 28 led to a hit-and-run accident between two other vehicles near the Fox Chapel exit Saturday evening.

According to police, Francis Esposito, 81, of O'Hara Township, used the Exit 8 southbound off ramp to get onto Route 28 from Fox Chapel Road about 5:30 p.m.

Jeffrey E. Torin, 57, of Indiana, was traveling southbound on Route 28 when he noticed Esposito driving toward him.

Torin then slowed down and came to a stop to avoid crashing into Esposito’s car.

A driver behind Torin was unable to bring their pickup truck to a stop and rear-ended Torin’s SUV. The driver of the truck then took the Exit 8 off ramp to Fox Chapel Road, where they crashed over a curb and into the yard of a home a short time later. The unknown driver then ran from the area.

Anyone with information on the driver of the pickup truck is asked to contact Kittanning police.

Esposito will be cited for careless driving.
