UNIONTOWN, Pa. - A Uniontown man is facing several charges after police said he had sex with a 12-year-old girl in an ice cream truck.
Ronald Burwell III was taken into custody Thursday evening.
According to the criminal complaint, the girl told police
that a few days before Aug. 22 she and Burwell talked about having protected sex.
A few days later, the two drove to Royal Lake in Redstone Township after selling ice cream, the complaint stated.
The girl told
police she and Burwell went into the back of the ice cream truck and started to kiss. Investigators said the two then engaged in sexual acts.
Police records indicate Burwell has been in trouble with the law in the past and recently served a prison sentence after pleading guilty to child endangerment.
Frank Swaney, the co-owner of F & S Ice Cream, told Channel 11 News that Burwell asked if he could take the girl with him on his route.
“A lot of our drivers do that. They’ll bring their kids or someone along with them,” Swaney said. “To find this out, though, I was just sick and absolutely disgusted."
The girl was not an employee of F & S Ice Cream.
Swaney said Burwell was fired after about three weeks because a background check revealed problems with his driver’s license.
