“At this point, it’s just touch and go,” said Phillip Grayson Jr. “We still don’t know, he’s heavily sedated.”

According to the family of the 76-year-old man, Grayson Sr. rented the U-Haul to move his nephew. When he got inside the truck, it began rolling downhill.”

The family said Grayson Sr. returned the truck to U-Haul earlier in the week because of a complaint about an emergency brake.

“They claim they fixed it at the U-Haul facility in Pleasant Hills,” Grayson Jr. said. Right after, he was under the assumption that the truck was fixed.”

Grayson Sr. had been unconscious since the accident with a skull fracture.

Since the incident, the 76-year-old has been unconscious.

“There has to be an issue that caused him to not be able to stop this truck,” Grayson Jr. said.

U-Haul responded in a statement, saying:

Mr. Grayson is a longtime U-Haul customer. We hope and pray that he recovers in light of this accident. Mr. Grayson and his family are in our thoughts during this difficult time.
