Man tells pit bull to attack troopers in Derry Township; one bitten

DERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Derry Township man is facing charges after he set one of his pit bulls on three troopers, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

The troopers were at the home of James Bowman on Thursday to take the 54-year-old into custody on a felony arrest warrant issued by the Derry Borough Police Department.

Police said that while the troopers attempted to make the arrest, Bowman instructed one of his pit bulls to attack them. The dog bit an elbow of one of the troopers.

A second pit bull charged at each of the troopers as they tried to detain Bowman, police said.

Bowman is charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and resisting arrest.
