Man tells police he left kids alone to go buy Kool-Aid

PITTSBURGH — A man is accused of leaving his infant daughter alone inside a Hill District apartment while he went to the grocery store.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by Channel 11 News, Pittsburgh police were called to Bedford Avenue Thursday for a report of children who had been locked out of an apartment.

When they arrived, they found two children, ages 3 and 18 months, outside the apartment with two neighbors who reported hearing a baby crying inside the apartment.

When officers obtained a key and went inside, they found a 6-month-old girl in her crib. No adult was present.

Abdalla Abdikadar told officers he went to the store to buy Kool-Aid.

He is facing charges of child endangerment. All three children are in the custody of their mother, who was at work at the time of the incident.
