Man who attempted to carjack woman in Walmart parking lot has first court appearance

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. — The man who attempted to carjack a woman in a Walmart parking lot outside of Hempfield last month made his first appearance in court Friday.

Ronald Schissler will head to trial on charges after he threatened Christina Gotz with a knife and tried to steal her car while her young son was in the back seat.%

"Each step that we go further it gives me a relief that I can put this one step behind me,” said Gotz. “As each of these proceedings progress, it gives me a little bit more ease and each day gets easier because I never forget about the incident, but I don’t sit and think about it constantly."

Gotz told Channel 11 that she carries a knife on her at all times since the incident.

"I am very more cautious as to my kids being right beside me, holding onto the buggy at all times, especially when we're walking through parking lots. We have a system when we get in our car now,” she said.

Schissler will be formally arraigned in August.
