Marshall-Shadeland residents frustrated after passing drivers damage vehicles

PITTSBURGH — Some residents in Marshall-Shadeland say they are frustrated that their vehicles continue to be damaged by passing drivers.

People living along Woodland Avenue said their vehicles have been damaged by other people passing through.

“They don't stop at the stop sign. They don't let people pass properly,” Patricia Ashcraft said.

Ashcraft told Channel 11 that her family’s three cars have all been hit and damaged over the last couple of months.

Micheal Blackwell said he sees reckless drivers all too often and that there is an even bigger reason to worry.

“This is where all the school buses stop and pick up our children,” Blackwell said.

Ashcraft and Blackwell said there are surveillance cameras in the area, but do not work.

Without any evidence the hit-and-run drivers have not been caught. Ashcraft said this is a problem that is only getting worse and more costly for them.

“I don't have that kind of money. Me and my daughter – we work – and we have to have our cars for transportation to get to work,” Ashcraft said.

Pittsburgh police said the camera are not city-owned cameras.
