McKEES ROCKS, Pa. - McKees Rocks residents tell Channel 11 they’re concerned about a man who has been squatting inside an abandoned home.
Residents said the man who took up shelter in the home is homeless and has a mental health disorder.
The home on Bouquet Street has no screens in the windows, electricity or water.
“We just want these people out of here, so we can have a nice neighborhood,” said Carl Trautman.
On Saturday, police arrested the man for trespassing and risking a catastrophe after they found lit candles in a second-floor bedroom.
“If a fire starts, it’s just going to go right down the block,” said Trautman.
Channel 11 has learned the man has been arrested for squatting 14 times in 10 years.
Some residents hope the man gets some help instead of being jailed and released each time.
“It’s a shame. Instead of getting help for somebody who needs it, they throw him in jail and let somebody else worry about it.
