Moon parents ‘outraged' by school closure; Talks to merge with Cornell underway

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Moon Area School District parents express outrage after vote to close school

Parents in the Moon Area School District are outraged after the school board voted to close Hyde Elementary School.

A large crowd of parents booed as the board finalized the vote at a meeting Monday night.

The superintendent said closing Hyde Elementary will save the district thousands of dollars.

The board also voted in favor of discussions with Cornell School District about a possible merger.

“Fight on Moon Township! I would implore every resident to show up to these subsequent meetings and continue to burn the ears of the school board,” said one parent, Dr. Noah Eger.

The board also voted to reconfigure grade levels. Grades kindergarten through second will attend Bon Meade Elementary and Brooks Elementary. Grades three and four will attend Allard and McCormick elementary.
