Mother gets 1st car of her life thanks to generous high schoolers, Verona business

In her first car ever, Ashley Plubell drives with newfound hope during this holiday season.

Earlier this year, her 3-month-old son, Terrance, died of SIDS. Channel 11 spoke with Plubell back September when her neighbors were raising money to help her plan her baby boy's funeral.

Since then, Plubell has been trying to regain a sense of normalcy, as best as she could. But those who know her admit that getting around with two children has been challenging without a car of her own.

Which is why this surprise gift from Woodland Hills high school students was so sentimental.

This 2011 Chevy Malibu was refurbished by the students and donated by Flagship Collision of Verona as part of the "Recycled Rides" program.

They were looking for a deserving person out of the nominations and Plubell was picked.
