PAUMA VALLEY, Calif. — When a stray German shepherd puppy fell into a 200-foot ravine in Pauma Valley, California, things could have taken a turn for the worst.
But the puppy's cries may have helped saved her.
As the 10-week-old pup fell down the ravine, San Diego County's Country News Center reported that a large bush broke her fall and kept her from falling down the entire ravine.
One-hundred-feet down, her cries were heard at the top of the ravine.
Denise Gove, an Animal Control officer and a member of the San Diego County Animal Response Team, was called out to help with the challenging rescue.
“I called Denise and explained the situation. She expressed that she has been trained in rappelling and was eager to respond,” Lt. Loren Bunnell, who took the original call from dispatch, told Country News Center. “I really didn’t realize the enormity of the situation until I saw the photos afterwards.”
The puppy appears to be in good health and is available for adoption at San Diego County Animal Services in Carlsbad, California.
This poor pup fell down a ravine, but thanks to some serious rappelling skills from a County of San Diego Department of Animal Services officer, she was saved. We're thinking of calling her Rapp-unz-el.
