Neighbors help police apprehend burglary suspect in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — Police arrested a burglary suspect Saturday morning after a home invasion, but not before neighbors attempted to subdue the suspect after the act.

Pittsburgh Police said officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of Orchlee Street in Pittsburgh's Brighton Heights neighborhood shortly before noon on Saturday.

According to police, a 62-year-old woman was home alone when 46-year-old Joseph Ray Schrecengost entered her home. The woman was able to flee the home and notify neighbors, who waited for the suspect to leave the house before attempting to subdue him.

By the time police arrived on scene, the suspect had already escaped the scene. However, officers apprehended him a short time later.

Police recovered the victim's purse and some money inside a dumpster nearby.

They have charged Schrecengost with burglary.
