New Kensington bank robbed; suspect in custody

A suspect is in custody in connection with a bank robbery Wednesday in New Kensington.

The robbery was reported around 2 p.m. at the Key Bank on Freeport Street, Westmoreland County 911 officials said.

Channel 11's news partners at TribLIVE reported the man was caught near the former Fort Crawford Elementary School building at Third Street and Industrial Boulevard.

The suspect was armed with a knife, New Kensington police Chief Jim Klein said. Police used a Taser on the suspect, who was taken to Allegheny Valley Hospital for treatment, TribLIVE reported.

The suspect's name had not been released as of 5:20 p.m. Police said other charges in addition to robbery could be filed.
