72-Year-Old Washington Man Suspected Of Trafficking Heroin

 

WASHINGTON, Pa. —

A 72-year-old Canton Township man suspected of trafficking heroin in the Washington area for the last several months was arrested Thursday afternoon.

Police said 63 bags of heroin were found in Welch’s Ford truck.

Welch had been under investigation and surveillance for heroin trafficking over the past several months, said Ron Levi, task force director.

Welch was arraigned on charges of possession and possession with intent to deliver heroin and was placed in Washington County Jail on $25,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday.

Welch is also expected to be charged with selling heroin to a confidential informant in July.

Last month, drug task force detectives and deputies raided his home and seized the Chevrolet Cobalt he had been driving when he allegedly sold the drugs to the informant.
