PITTSBURGH —
The annual event was loaded with fun, food and games for the children of the police officers.
This year’s event took on more meaning for families gathered together in the wake of the police tragedy in Stanton Heights that left three officers dead.
The daughters of Officer Eric Kelly were among the people in attendance for the event.
Actor Nick Nolte, in town shooting a new movie, also stopped by to congratulate the police chief on how his department handled the tragedy.
He met with the children of the police officers, including Officer Kelly’s children.
Nolte told Channel 11, “Especially for these kids, the children of the officers, they've got to know that their dads and moms do something really special. So I wanted them to know that they're special.”
When asked about what he told Officer Kelly’s children, Nolte said, “She's very beautiful and I just asked her how she was doing. She said she was doing all right, so there's not much you can say. I’m very, very sorry.”
