AG: Customers Ask For Roethlisberger Jersey In Cocaine Transactions

MONROEVILLE, Pa. —

Attorney General Tom Corbett announced Monday that a multimillion-dollar drug ring has been broken up in Allegheny County.

According to Corbett, the organization distributed significant quantities of cocaine in the Monroeville and Sharpsburg areas over the past year.

"Operation Bad Sport" led to charges being filed against 13 alleged drug dealers accused of being involved in the $2.2 million cocaine ring, Corbett said.

He said two of the defendants are known to be members of the "Race Street Crips," a violent street gang.

Clients would allegedly request their cocaine over the phone using codes. If they ordered a "Ben Roethlisberger Jersey" or a "Vick" that meant 7 grams of cocaine.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick both wear No. 7.

"With today's arrests, we have dismantled a significant cocaine distribution ring operating in the Pittsburgh area," said Corbett. "We allege this organization was distributing $228,000 worth of cocaine per month in the region."

The investigation started in January with a focus on Julius Lamar Robinson and Antonio Lemar Henderson, both believed to be members of the Race Street Crips. According to the grand jury, Robinson was a mid to upper-level cocaine trafficker and used various members of his organization to arrange cocaine transactions among lower street-level dealers.

Channel 11 News reporter Kimberly Easton spoke with residents visiting the Monroeville apartment complex where Robinson used to live.

”It's so quiet around here,” said Deanna Dias. “I'd never expect anything going on like that at all."

Many residents have been in the area for many years and are surprised by the bust.

“My father has been living here for more than 20 years I can't believe it,” said Adriene Smith.

The grand jury found that Henderson was a main associate involved with finding street-level cocaine customers.

Corbett said that the Race Street Crips are known to be highly involved in drug trafficking, homicides, shootings, aggravated assaults, robberies and illegal firearm possession.

According to the grand jury, Lamarr Martin was one of Robinson's largest customers. Martin allegedly used approximately 18 different phone numbers to contact Robinson for drugs and between June 23 and July 19 placed at least 20 different orders on 17 occasions for various amounts of cocaine.

Corbett said that during certain calls and messages, Robinson directed Martin how to handle the cocaine business, coached him on sales, pricing, how to handle street problems and how to handle his customer base.

Seven of the 13 suspects are in custody. Police are searching for the rest, saying some have plans to turn themselves in.
