Aliquippa Man Receives Carnegie Hero Medal

The Carnegie Medal was given to 34-year-old Dwight Moore of Aliquippa on Thursday night.

In May of 2008 he ran into a burning building to rescue 18-year-old Kara Freemen.

That night, Moore heard Freeman's mother screaming that her daughter was still in the buring home.

With hesitating, Moore ran inside and up to the third floor bedroom. He found Freemen still asleep. He woke her up and got her out safely.

Moore was treated for smoke inhalation.

He said he still has dreams about the fire.

Moore said, "I thank god for one because I almost didn't make it out of that house. I never knew this was going to come. It means a lot to me. I'm very proud of myself."

Andrew Carnegie started the award in 1904. It is given to people who risk their lives to save others.
