Animal Friends Gives Dogs Without Homes 2nd Chance

PITTSBURGH —

The no-kill animal shelter Animal Friends is giving dogs without homes a second chance.

Animal Friends held its second annual Liberation Day Rescue on Wednesday.

The shelter visited other area animal shelters and gave lost and unclaimed dogs that were slated to be euthanized a better chance at adoption.

This year, Operation Troop Appreciation is helping name the dogs.

"Today 19 dogs got a second chance at Animal Friends. They've come in and received names in honor of fallen servicemen in Iraq," said Jolene Miklas of Animal Friends.

After the dogs got their new names, they were given baths and groomed.
