Arsonist To Face Homicide After Death Of Firefighter

Westover, Pa. —

State police in central Pennsylvania say whoever set fire to an abandoned building will also be charged with criminal homicide in the death of a volunteer firefighter who suffered a heart attack responding to the blaze.

The firefighter died of a heart attack responding to a blaze at an abandoned building in Westover, and a fire marshal ruled it an arson.

Nobody has been charged with setting the fire about 12:30 a.m. Saturday in Clearfield County. That's about 75 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Cambria County Coroner Dennis Kwiatkowski says 41-year-old Roy Westover Jr. suffered a heart attack and died at Miners Medical Hospital in Hastings less than two hours after responding to the fire.

Westover was a member of the Westover Area Fire Department. His funeral with full firefighter honors is scheduled for Wednesday at the Westover Baptist Church.

Westover was a member of the fire department for more than 20 years.
