Beaver Co. Nuclear Facility Receives Historic Designation

 

SHIPPINGPORT, Pa. —

The Shippingport atomic power station in Beaver County will receive an historic designation.

It is among 21 new marker locations announced by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.

The Shippingport station was the first commercial nuclear facility in the nation created specifically for generating electricity.

There are more than two thousand markers statewide.

All sites are nominated by the public.
