Bill For Video Poker Machines Shot Down

Lawmakers shot down a bill to legalize video poker machines in Pennsylvania.

The law would have allowed the machines to be placed in 14,000 bars, clubs, and taverns across the state.

“I could care less. I have family members who play, but I never would be caught on it playing poker, “said Lena Acheson.

“I think it would be better if they would have legalized it. Anything to help the tax revenue and bring income into the state is necessary,” said Joe Nohra.

The video poker bill was first unveiled in February by Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell.

Rendell said that putting up to five video poker machines in bars and clubs would generate up to $550 million a year for the state to use in helping students in state-owned colleges and community colleges.
