Bishop Zubik Supports Amendment To Ban Gay Marriage

PITTSBURGH —

Pittsburgh's Bishop showed his support for a proposed amendment to the Pennsylvania constitution banning gay marriage.

A State Senate committee hearing on Senate bill 1250 was held in Pittsburgh Thursday.

Supporters, including Bishop David Zubik, said it would protect the institution of marriage.

Opponents said passage of the bill would amount to legalized discrimination.

Even if the bill is approved by the Legislature this year, it would have to be approved again in a statewide referendum next year, before the constitution could be changed.
