Booze On Board: Pittsburgh Backhoe Driver Suspected Of DUI

PITTSBURGH —

Pittsburgh police said a city employee was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol early Monday morning.

Edward Price was arrested while operating a backhoe on Washington Boulevard in Pittsburgh's Lincoln-Lemington section, police said.

Officers said he was driving on the wrong side of the road and almost hit a police car. Police also said they found a can of Bud Light on the backhoe.

"An officer was on routine patrol when he came across this backhoe coming at him," said Cmdr. Larry Ross of the Pittsburgh Police Department.

Price works for the Sewer and Water Authority and was apparently taking the backhoe back to the asphalt plant.

Police said Price's blood-alcohol level was greater than 0.13. The legal limit for operating a commercial vehicle is 0.04.

Price is charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence with a high rate of alcohol, driving under the influence while operating a commercial vehicle and reckless driving.
