Burglary Suspect Tries, Fails To Disable Surveillance Video

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

Police said surveillance cameras helped catch a thief in the act during a burglary at a hotel and bar in Franklin Township.

Police said the suspect thought he was being sly by disabling the camera at the Longhorn Corral Motel Saloon and restaurant, but the camera kept rolling.

While viewing the surveillance video, owner Geral Rumburg said he recognized the suspect as a man who has lived in the hotel for the past two years, Michael Cannuli, 34.

“It's a surprise that he would go that far,” said Rumburg.

Rumburg said he immediately recognized the man creeping around the dark bar as Cannulli.

Rumburg said the suspect busted out a back window and crawled inside. Once inside, police said, Cannulli tried unsuccessfully to disable the camera.

“He tried to unplug video first and then the cameras,” said Rumburg. “He didn't know we had a battery backup.”

Police said Cannuli stole $300 and when confronted with the video evidence, he confessed.

Rumburg said he feels betrayed, saying Cannuli complained of a bad back and couldn't work, so the family helped him out.

Cannuli has pleaded not guilty to theft and burglary charges. He is free on $5,000 bond.

His family is still living at the motel, but he's been kicked out, officials said.
