Butler Doctor Denies Molesting Boys While In Scouts

BUTLER, Pa. —

The attorney for a Butler County physician said his client was "blindsided" by allegations he molested two boys while he was a Boy Scout leader in the early 1990s and "vehemently" denies the charges.

Dr. David Evanko, 55, of Chicora, is free on bond and faces a preliminary hearing May 11 on charges including involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.

State police in Butler said Evanko molested the boys between 1989 and 1995 when both were younger than 16 while Evanko was leader of Scout Troop 10 in Butler.

"There are two victims that we know of at this time," said Trp. Ron Kesten of the Pennsylvania state police. "There may possibly be more."

The victims said Evanko gave them alcohol and watched pornographic movies besides the molestation. One of the victims told police the doctor performed one particular sexual activity on him "well over 100" times.

The local Boy Scout council said they have revoked Evanko's membership in the group because of the charges.

Defense attorney David DeFazio said his client feels shocked and betrayed by the charges.
