Butler Man Fires Shots After Police Visit His Home

HARMONY, Pa. —

Police in Harmony, Butler County, have detained a man they said fired two shots after officers arrived at his home to investigate a suicide threat.

Authorities said Gary Phillips, 57, is in custody after firing two shots when police arrived at his home Wednesday evening.

Investigators said police went to Phillips' Liberty Road home after being notified by a crisis intervention center that he was threatening suicide.

A State Police emergency response team was able to convince Phillips to surrender without anyone being hurt.

Liberty Road was blocked off in the area, and neighbors were asked to evacuate their homes during the standoff. About six families were asked to leave their homes for safety concerns.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Police have not said if Phillips will face charges.
