CAPA Student's Mother Questions Police-Administered Polygraph

PITTSBURGH —

The mother of a CAPA student who said he was beaten by Pittsburgh Police told Channel 11 Wednesday she is questioning the polygraph test given to the three officers.

The Fraternal Order of Police recently announced that the officers, who are now on suspension, passed the polygraph.

Channel 11, through its newspaper partnership with The Tribune Review, learned that the lie detector test company is owned by William Barrett, a Ross Township police officer.

The following questions were asked to the three officers.

Question: "Do you intend to answer truthfully each question about that incident?"

Answer: "Yes."

Question: "Are you lying when you say Saldutte immediately identified himself as a police officer?"

Answer: "No."

Question: "Are you lying when you were saying 'Police you are under arrest'?"

Answer: "No."

Question: "Are you lying when you say Miles kept saying 'Don't take me to jail'?"

Answer: "No."

Terez Miles told Channel 11 News reporter Alan Jennings that she has a problem with the ownership of the polygraph company and the questions that were asked.

"There's no credibility at all with those polygraph results. They should have gone to the FBI, just like Jordan did. Jordan knew he was telling the truth. He wanted to have a polygraph. He submitted to an FBI polygraph exam. They should have done the same," Miles said.

The U.S. Justice Department acknowledged that there is a federal investigation under way; A grand jury probe of the incident and subpoenas have been served on the Pittsburgh Police department for records on the Jordan Miles case.

The following statement was issued by the U.S. Department of Justice:

"We take all accusations of law enforcement misconduct very seriously."

"Very encouraged. It has far reaching implications. It's good to know that so many people in high places are taking this case very very seriously and I feel more confident than ever that the truth will be found out and known," Terez Miles said.

Channel 11 learned that the FBI has taken DNA samples from Jordan Miles and the Pittsburgh Police Department has been subpoenaed to provide hair samples that were seized as evidence.
