Carnegie To Shut Off Water To Those With Delinquent Sewage Bills

CARNEGIE, Pa. —

A Pittsburgh suburb is set to take drastic action against customers who owe a total of more than $350,000 in delinquent sewage bills.

Carnegie Borough officials said they plan to send final notices by 4 p.m. Monday to customers who have a bill that is more than 31 days late.

Borough Manager Whitney Brady said she wasn't sure how many customers are delinquent, except to say it's "a lot."

Officials said the heftiest bill belongs to Kim Snatchko who owes $7,742.

“Whatever excuse you have, pay your bills,” said Gerry Washington. “I don’t like paying bills either. I want a roof over my head and when I flush my toilet, I want it to work.”

Carnegie customers pay their bill to Pennsylvania American Water, which then pays Carnegie for using its sewers. When customers don’t pay water bills, PAW doesn’t pay Carnegie for Sewer use.

Some of the old bills date to 2007. The borough said they sent three notices to customers with past-due bills.
