Channel 11 reporter, Jodine Costanzo checked it out and had no problem making a cell phone call, but when she tried to make a call a few streets away at Virginia and Merrimac, she lost her call.

Anyone who owns a cell phone knows dropped calls and spotty signals are pretty much unavoidable. But with so many cell providers on the market these days, which one gives you the best signal?

According to a recent survey by the market research firm J.D. Power and Associates, Verizon scored the highest. Sprint Nextel came in second, followed by T-Mobile and Cingular.

The study included all of Pennsylvania and was based on signal strength and dropped calls.

The great news for wireless users locally is that the study ranked Pittsburgh No. 1 in overall call quality out of 27 cities in the survey.
