Channel 11, PUC Hosts 'Power Shopping' Event

PITTSBURGH —

Thanks to deregulation in Pennsylvania, electric customers now have the option to choose their supplier.

Channel 11 News teamed up with the Public Utility Commission and hosted an event Thursday, called Power Shopping, which gave customers the information they need in order to make the best choice when it comes to their electric company.

For one day, and at no cost, customers found out if switching providers could save them money. The informational event was held at the Mall at Robinson on Thursday at the Grand Court near Starbucks.

Participating companies included: Direct Energy, Dominion Energy, First Energy Solution, Trieagle Energy, Reliant Energy and Viridian Energy.

Some local residents said they have already made a switch and have saved big.

Channel 11 Facebook fan Stephanie wrote, "I switched from Allegheny Power to First Energy and my normal bill was around $240 a month. Since I switched my bill now only runs me $150 to $170 month. It was the best thing I ever did."
