Channel 11 Takes 1 Tank Trip To Cedar Point In Sandusky, Oh.

Cedar Point is known as the “roller coaster capitol of the world,” and is an extremely popular destination for families across the United States. Luckily for Pittsburgh residents, the trip is a fairly short one.

The park is located in Sandusky, Ohio, which is about a three-hour drive from Pittsburgh.

Channel 11 consumer investigator Robin Taylor took the trip, with a mission to find you money saving deals while visiting the park.

Taylor said that for a family of four, the trip can cost as little as $670 for gas, four nights in a hotel and three-day ride and slide tickets.

Cedar Point representatives said that the park has some of the most thrilling rides in the country. There are 17 roller coasters. There are also four special areas for young children, including Planet Snoopy. There are also family friendly rides and live variety shows.

"There's so much to see and do at Cedar Point. I'd certainly recommend staying at least two days, that way you can enjoy Cedar Point and you can enjoy Soak City," said Cedar Point spokesman Robin Innes.

Cedar Point also has a water park, but requires a separate ticket, or a ride and slide pass.

Innes said admission is $46 for adults and $20 for kids. But Taylor said you can get discount tickets through AAA for $37.50.

Innes said your best bet may be to stay at one of the nearby hotels that offer Cedar Point visitors special perks, including adult park admission for $29 and admission to the park an hour earlier than the general public.

"So our resort guests can get a ride or two on some of the most popular rides before the park even opens to the public," said Innes.

Innes said the park tends to get crowded on the weekends and the most popular rides can have wait times between 45 minutes to an hour and a half. He said the best time to go is during the week.

The park also has a VIP ticket offer that costs $375. Innes said the VIP pass allows park visitors to cut in line.

Cedar Point was just voted “the best amusement park in the world” for the twelfth consecutive year by Amusement Today magazine.
