Child Accidentally Shot With Loaded Pistol

WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. —

Police in Mercer County arrested a man after an 18 month old child accidentally shot himself with a gun.

Sergio Flores-Cabrera, 18, was taken into custody on charges of recklessly endangering another person, illegal possession of a firearm, and tampering with evidence when police responded to the Pine Tree Village address Saturday afternoon.

The 18-month-old boy picked up a back pack containing a loaded pistol and the gun went off, shooting him in the leg.

Police are charging Flores-Cabrera because they said he left the bag in a place where the child could reach it and did not secure the weapon properly.

The boy is being treated at a children's hospital in Akron.
