Child Found Wandering Twice In 2 Days; Parents Charged

DONORA, Pa. —

A Donora couple is facing charges after police said they found their child wandering two times in as many days.

According to police, the 3-year-old boy was found wandering near Station Restaurant on Saturday wearing only a diaper.

Employee Kathy Wagner said she saw the boy walk into the store alone.

"My coworker and I said, 'Let's give him cookies and calm him down.' It's a shame. He had bruises all over him. His feet were black."

The criminal complaint said one day later, the child was found again walking alone near railroad tracks. Police said the boy was found curled up in a fetal position with sunburn and bug bites all over of his body.

Marlon Cochran said he and his friend found the boy near their homes.

"He needed help. I had to go save him," Cochran said. "I shed a few tears. It was sad, very emotional."

John Matalik, 48, and Celeste Bohnak, 33, are facing child endangerment charges. They are both currently in the Washington County Jail.
