Clerk Helps Catch South Hills Robbery Suspects

Police: Bonwell, Scozio Held Up 3 Stores In 2 Days

SOUTH PARK, Pa. —

A store clerk helped police end a possible crime spree for a pair of suspects in South Park.

Police said 24-year-old Renee Bonwell and 29-year-old Vincent Scozio were arrested Thursday after allegedly robbing a discount tobacco store in South Park. The pair is also charged with three other armed robberies in Pittsburgh earlier this week.

The store clerk told police he recognized Bonwell from surveillance video of robberies earlier in the week.

South Park Township Police Chief Joe Ferrelli said, "She pulled out a gun, which she described as being a .45 automatic. She had it in her left hand. She pointed it at and said, 'Give me your money.' And she reached out with her right to grab the money. He took a swing at her with his left hand, just missing her."

Police said they recovered an air gun from the suspects. They do not know whether it is the same gun used in the robberies.
