Couple Returns From Shopping, Finds North Braddock Home In Flames

NORTH BRADDOCK, Pa. —

A North Braddock couple's vacation plans were disrupted when flames tore through their rental home on Monday.

The flames erupted at the Grandview Avenue home at about 7:30 p.m.

The couple who live in the house said they had just returned from shopping for an upcoming vacation and smelled smoke. They said they then found the blaze on the second floor of the home.

"My boyfriend went in and said he could smell something smoldering. He went upstairs, and the flames blew him backwards," said Jonnette Simon

Firefighters contained the blaze to a single room.

Once the couple was safe, their fears immediately turned to the safety of their cat. Rescuers found Zoo-Loo safe and sound in the kitchen.

The home sustained serious damage on the second floor. Officials could not say whether or not the fire was suspicious. The fire marshal is investigating.

The occupants do not have renters insurance.
