Crash Knocks Out Power To Parts Of Oakland

Car Slams Into Utility Pole

PITTSBURGH —

Police are investigating an overnight crash near the intersection of Neville and Winthrop Streets in Oakland. The driver of a Volvo lost control and slammed into a utility pole. The vehicle then hit a tree, and ended up in the middle of the road.

A local student witnessed the crash. "We saw bright green flashes. It looked like fireworks, and we came outside and what we saw was the car in the middle of the road, the back smashed in," said Brian Bethel.

Duquesne Light said the utility pole provides power to residents and traffic lights to a three-square-block area. They are still working to restore service to the entire area.

The student was rushed to UPMC Presby and only needed treatment for scratches and bruises.
