Deer Rescued From Frozen Westmoreland County Lake

NORTH HUNTINGDON, Pa. —

Crews successfully rescued a deer that became trapped in a frozen lake in North Huntingdon early Thursday morning.

Township officials and a rescue crew from Suttersville rescued the doe.

Crews strung a rope across the partially frozen lake at Indian Lake Park and paddled through the ice to reach the scared animal.

Channel 11 News was there when crews pulled the deer out of the water.

The rescue proved to be a good training exercise for the Fairmont Hahntown Volunteer Fire Department, officials said.

Officials said the deer likely was suffering from hypothermia. They planned to release the animal into a nearby wooded area.
